The Primevals Trailer Promises an Action-Packed Stop-Motion Adventure

It’s not often that a film takes decades to complete, but if this trailer is any indication, The Primevals will be well worth the wait. Production on the film began all the way back in the 1970s when visual effects maestro David Allen finally got the project off the ground, but because of funding issues, he wasn’t able to complete it right away. Eventually, Allen got the movie back on track in the 1990s, but he sadly passed away before he could finish it. However, in recent years, the film’s producer, Charles Band, has been hard at work completing the film, and now, after almost five decades, it’s finally ready.

Plot details are pretty scarce, but the trailer for The Primevals gives us a sense of what the movie is about. It seems to be a King Kong-esque adventure that follows a group of Westerners who travel to Nepal to capture a Yeti and bring it back for scientific research, and when they arrive, they get a lot more than they bargained for. They find a fantastical world inhabited by all sorts of unknown creatures, but unsurprisingly, the biggest and baddest of the bunch is the monster they came for, the Yeti.

I don’t know about you, but I think that plot sounds pretty cool, so right off the bat, I’m already super intrigued. I love the idea of people traveling to faraway lands and encountering undiscovered animals that defy everything we think we know about the history of life on this planet, so this film sounds like it’s going to be right up my alley.

And in case there’s any doubt left, the trailer for The Primevals puts it to rest. The fantastical creatures in this movie are brought to life by stop-motion animation, and that seals the deal for me. I grew up loving stop-motion films like King Kong, The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, and The Nightmare Before Christmas, so this animation style has a special place in my heart.

In fact, it’s my favorite form of animation, so naturally, The Primevals is an absolute must-watch for me. I’m dying to see this movie, and thankfully, it looks like the wait isn’t going to be too long. The Primevals will be making its world premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival next month, and according to producer Charles Band’s introduction to the trailer, it should be released to the general public sometime later this year.
