Nicolas Cage Is the Man of Everyone’s Dreams in the New Dream Scenario Trailer

Most of us would probably like to be the man or woman of someone’s dreams. It sounds pretty flattering, but only up to a point. Generally, we only want to be in one person’s dreams, and not literally. But what if we upped the ante a bit? What if you literally appeared in everybody’s dreams? That bizarre scenario could quickly turn into an utter nightmare, and in the new trailer for the upcoming A24 film Dream Scenario, we get a glimpse of just how horrific it would be.

Dream Scenario stars Nicolas Cage as Paul Matthews, an unassuming family man who becomes a celebrity overnight–quite literally! Seemingly out of nowhere, this guy starts showing up in millions of people’s dreams, and when those dreams turn into nightmares, his life takes a nightmarish turn as well.

I’ve had my eye on Dream Scenario for a little while, but I have to be honest, when I started watching this trailer, I was actually a bit underwhelmed. For about the first minute and a half, it seemed more like a feel-good comedy than anything else, and I began to wonder if my excitement for the movie was woefully misplaced.

But thankfully, the trailer soon takes a frightful turn and ditches the cheery vibe. A bit after the 90-second mark, people’s dreams about Paul finally turn into nightmares, and while we don’t see too many of these scenes, the little bit we do get is genuinely creepy. On top of that, the trailer gives us a glimpse into the dark side of Paul’s fame as well, and that also looks pretty horrific.

So by the time the Dream Scenario trailer ended, I was completely hooked. This looks like exactly the kind of horror-adjacent comedy I want it to be, and I absolutely can’t wait to buy a ticket for opening night.

Dream Scenario is set to debut in theaters on November 10.
