Netflix just released a trailer for its upcoming YA LGBTQ+ vampire series, First Kill. Starting June 10th, all eight episodes will be available to binge this summer.
The show follows the romance between a vampire and a slayer. Sound familiar? Sure, but from the looks of it, First Kill offers a fresh take with an interesting twist.
First Kill is a coming-of-age paranormal romance that focuses on two teenage girls, Juliette (Sarah Catherine Hook) and Calliope (Imani Lewis). Calliope has just moved into town and meets Juliette at school, and the two fall in love. However, Juliette was born into a family of powerful vampires and Calliope was born into a family of legendary vampire hunters. Each girl is expected to complete a rite of passage with their first kill. Their targets? Each other.
The trailer shows the girls meeting, intercut with scenes of them interacting with their families and tension-filled scenes with hunters and vampires interacting with each other. Then, we see the tension building as the families find out about the girls’ romance, intercut with action-packed fight scenes between vampires and hunters. It looks as if this series is a mix of romance with a good dose of reality. First Kill seems as if it won’t pull any punches and won’t shy away from upping both the tension and the action between the vampires and the hunters.
The series will also star Elizabeth Mitchell, Will Swenson, Aubion Wise, Jason Robert Moore, Gracie Dzienny, Dylan McNamara, Dominic Goodman, Phillip Mullings Jr., MK xyz, Jonas Dylan Allen, and Roberto Mendez. Felicia D. Henderson will serve as a writer along with V.E. Schwab, who wrote the short story that the series is based on of the same name. The story was first published in 2020 in an anthology, Vampires Never Get Old: Tales With Fresh Bite. Both Henderson and Schwab will also serve as executive producers, along with Emma Roberts and Karah Preiss for Belletrist Productions.
