Halloween Kills Trailer: “I’m Coming for You Michael”

A while back, after the pandemic initially delayed Halloween Kills, I remember Jamie Lee Curtis tweeting a message out to disappointed fans of Michael Myers that not only was the film a “masterpiece,” but it would be “worth the wait.” If the trailer that dropped on Thursday evening is any indication of what we’re in for, Curtis’ promise is holding up. From the blazing fire opening of the trailer that connects this twelfth entry in the franchise directly to the 2018 reboot, the hospital sequences that seem to pay tribute to Carpenter’s Halloween sequel, and the Silver Shamrock masks seen on Michael’s victims that tie in Halloween III: Season of the Witch, we are looking at a huge amount of fan service that has me wishing it were October already.

Let’s also consider the amount of violence we see here in this trailer. Between the effortless takedown of multiple firefighters who unwittingly release Michael from the fiery deathtrap Laurie (Curtis) planned for her forty-three-year stalker to that jaw-droppingly vicious florescent bulb through the jugular sequence, the body count in Halloween Kills seems to be exponentially higher than that of its predecessor. Hell, it could potentially be larger than any Halloween film to date. And remember, this is just what Universal is willing to show us from the film, so what does that mean for what they haven’t shown us?

Also, how badass does Anthony Michael Hall look as Tommy Doyle? Rocking a shaved head and brandishing a baseball bat, Tommy leads the people of Haddonfield in a hunt for the boogeyman. I don’t think anyone ever said thought Hall would end up here after Sixteen Candles or The Breakfast Club, but here he is potentially saving the day or bringing an entire mob of people to be mercilessly slaughtered. Obviously, this aggressive sequel is all leading up to Halloween Ends, currently slated to open one year after the release of Halloween Kills in October of 2022. Plus, since we see the ante amped up here, the finale of David Gordon Green’s trilogy will, in all likelihood, have to be absolute chaos as Laurie vows, “evil dies tonight.“ Considering that, the aftermath of this trailer has put a grin on my face wider than any film I’ve anticipated this year so far.

Finally, let’s talk about that violin over dub-beat performing John Carpenter’s theme to Halloween. Please give me some more of that. That got my heart pounding in the same rhythm all the way through the trailer.

Halloween Kills slashes its way into theaters on October 15.

So what do you think of the trailer for Halloween Kills? Do you agree with Sean that the film ups the ante? Did you think that lightbulb kill was also jaw-dropping? Let us know in the comments! And if you’re looking for more trailers, we’ve got you covered!
