Kids vs Alien Trailer Promises an Out-of-This-World Good Time

I love alien movies. Unlike, say, werewolves or vampires, aliens are almost entirely blank slates, so you never really know what you’re going to get with them. The only requirement is that the monsters have to come from outer space, but beyond that one rule, filmmakers have free rein to craft whatever sort of mythology they want. It makes for a really diverse subgenre that’s chock-full of surprises, so naturally, when I heard there was an upcoming movie called Kids vs Aliens, I had to check out the trailer. I’m a sucker for films that pit clever kids against ferocious monsters, so I couldn’t wait to get a glimpse of what this one has in store for us. Here’s what it’s going to be about:

All Gary wants is to make awesome home movies with his best buds. All his older sister Samantha wants is to hang with the cool kids. When their parents head out of town one Halloween weekend, an all-time rager of a teen house party turns to terror when aliens attack, forcing the siblings to band together to survive the night.

Admittedly, that plot synopsis doesn’t tell us too much that we can’t already figure out from the movie’s title, so the Kids vs Aliens trailer has a lot riding on it. It just about carries the entire burden of making this film look appealing, and thankfully, it succeeds wonderfully.

It has just about everything I could’ve wanted (as well as a few things I didn’t know I wanted!), like awesome monster action, a beautiful color palette, and some really fun humor, so despite the somewhat generic plot description, I’m all in on Kids vs Aliens. This film looks like it’s going to be one hell of a good time, so I’m counting down the days until I finally get to see it.

Kids vs Aliens will hit theaters and VOD on January 20.
