Since its inception, the official Horror Obsessive Podcast has strived to deliver you one hour of raucous entertainment as two horror film lovers clash in their discordant views of scary movies. JP Nunez and I lulled you into our world with the even keel of Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead, and then I had to go and speak my mind about Vincent Price’s acting style during The Monster Club. In retaliation, I had JP watch the Christmas slasher film Silent Night, Deadly Night, which, I found out, he utterly despises. So now it’s back to JP’s endless catalog of middle-of-the-road anthology films, a hell I may never escape, as we take on A Christmas Horror Story.
Analyzing each story, JP gives his take on the fun he had watching the film while I overanalyze everything—like I do. I write JP a terrible Night Before Christmas poem about A Christmas Horror Story before the two of us dive into the good, the bad, and the ugly of the film. For instance, why does JP enjoy the acting stylings of well-known ham actors like William Shatner? Are Changelings trolls or Keebler elves, maybe? And why in the hell did Walmart sell an edition of the film called A Holiday Horror Story?
We also dive into last week’s articles on Horror Obsessive, highlighting Brendan’s article on Skinamarink, a film coming to theaters, and Shudder soon. I shamelessly plug my dense analysis of Haddonfield and suburban decay, talk about the new Scream VI trailer, and the recent holiday horror releases of The Mean One and Christmas Bloody Christmas.
Like always, we have differing perspectives on the film, but we find an appreciation somewhere in the middle. We just go out of our minds laughing at each other before arriving there. So please join us as our yuletide schlockfest episodes continue with A Christmas Horror Story, and check us out again in two weeks as JP and I list our favorite 2022 horror films and tell you what we’re excited for in 2023.
Finally, from JP and myself to you and your families, have a very Merry Holiday, and thank you for listening.
