Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities Trailer Promises a Great Anthology Series

I’m a huge fan of anthology films. When I’m in the mood for a handful of horror snacks rather than a full gourmet meal, these movies hit the spot just right. And the same goes for TV shows. Sure, I love tuning in every week or binging episode after episode to see what happens next, but sometimes, I just want to watch a bunch of one-and-dones. I’d love for a great new horror anthology series to come around, so when I saw the trailer for the upcoming Netflix show Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, I knew my prayers had been answered.

Since this is an anthology series, it doesn’t really have a plot synopsis, but if the trailer is any indication, Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities is going to be one hell of a ride. Admittedly, this trailer doesn’t really show us anything substantial, but the little bit we do see is intriguing as hell. There’s a whole bunch of creepy and weird horror imagery here, so I can’t wait to see what the full show has in store for us.

On top of that, the format of the series is also really promising. It’s going to be eight episodes long, and each episode is going to be directed by a different horror filmmaker. For example, there will be contributions from Jennifer Kent (The Babadook), Keith Thomas (The Vigil), Panos Cosmatos (Mandy), and Ana Lily Amirpour (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night). That’s a veritable who’s who of modern indie horror, so I have a tough time imagining that this show will leave us disappointed.

All that being said, there is one name you might’ve noticed was absent from my list of notable directors: Guillermo del Toro himself. Unfortunately, he won’t actually be directing any of the episodes, but don’t worry, he’s still going to be pretty involved in the show. He’s co-showrunning it, and two of the episodes will be telling stories that he developed.

So once again, with all that talent involved, it looks like Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities is almost guaranteed to deliver, and when you add in the creepy imagery from the trailer, my confidence in this series goes through the roof. I firmly believe that this is going to be one of the best new genre shows of 2022, so I absolutely can’t wait to see it.

Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities currently doesn’t have a release date yet, but we know it’s scheduled to hit Netflix some time this year.
