Legacies is nearing its series finale, and many fans, among other sources, speculate that the series finale may have some surprise cameos.

With the announcement of the series’ cancellation, Legacies creator Julie Plec assured fans that The CW is giving her the opportunity “to tie up any loose ends” in the show’s series finale. Digital Spy quotes Plec “The season finales of both shows [Roswell and Legacies] were carefully crafted to also work as series finales.” Plec added that the Legacies writing team and executive producer Brett Matthews “poured all kinds of love into it.” Plec also added, “And there are a couple surprises for long-time #TVDU fans that may just blow your mind.”

The official synopsis for the Legacies finale, “Just Don’t Be A Stranger, Okay?” reads as follows: “Welcome Home – Hope (Danielle Rose Russell), Lizzie (Jenny Boyd), MG (Quincy Fouse), Kaleb (Chris Lee), Jed (Ben Levin), Cleo (Omono Okojie), and Alaric (Matthew Davis) reflect on recent events and what comes next for each of them. […] Hope and Lizzie each find solace from unexpected yet welcome sources. Also starring Aria Shaghasemi and Leo Howard.”

Just who those “unexpected yet welcome sources” are is being kept under wraps. There’s speculation that two characters from The Vampire Diaries may be included, Hope’s father, Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan), and Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola). Fans interpreted a recent cryptic message posted by Morgan on social media as meaning Klaus and Hope will somehow reunite. Fans also expect Lizzie Saltzman (Jenny Boyd) to be reunited with her surrogate mother, Caroline.

Earlier this month, it was announced that Legacies was coming to an end with its fourth season. The end of Legacies also marks the official end of The Vampire Diaries universe’s 13-year reign on The CW. The Vampire Diaries ended in 2017 and its first spin-off, The Originals, aired from 2013 to 2018.

Comicbook.com reported that The CW network president Mark Pedowitz said, “There will be a proper series finale […] I do know from talking to [creator] Julie [Plec], there is a perfect proper season finale, series finale.”

Legacies is one of two spin-off series of the hit supernatural-themed soap, The Vampire Diaries, which aired from 2009 to 2017 on The CW. The Vampire Diaries follows the adventures of a cast of supernatural beings including vampires, witches, and werewolves, and their misadventures in the fictitious town of Mystic Falls, Virginia. The Originals aired from 2013 to 2018 and follows the adventures of a clan of elder vampires, The Mikaelsons, introduced in The Vampire Diaries. Legacies, which began airing in 2018, follows Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell), described as a “tribrid daughter of a vampire/werewolf hybrid,” as she attends the Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted, which educates supernatural beings on how to control their impulses and powers.

The cast of Legacies also includes Aria Shahghasemi, Kaylee Bryant, Jenny Boyd, Quincy Fouse, Peyton Alex Smith, Matt Davis, Chris Lee, Ben Levin, Leo Howard, and Omono Okojie.

Fans can still catch Legacies’ final season which currently airs on Thursdays 9/8 c. on The CW. The series finale is set to air Thursday, June 16th.
