Mutiny Pictures (I Need You Dead!, Pasture, I Am Lisa) has acquired the world rights for the mystery thriller Below The Fold, previously featured during Panic Fest 2021 where it had its world premiere on April 15th after experiencing delays due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Several cast and crew members attended the premiere which was followed by a Q&A session. It will release on VOD on November 23rd, 2021.
Below The Fold follows two reporters in rural northwest Missouri as they uncover harrowing new details to a missing person’s case from 10 years prior. Susie Potter vanished a decade ago and the search for what happened to her will become an obsessive hunt for the truth.
In his review for Horror Obsessive, Peter wrote that Below the Fold wants to explore the subtle darkness and tension beneath a tight-knit community and the very human terrors that might be lurking just around the corner…[it’s] quiet, atmospheric, and unbearably tense in places. Peter went on to praise the film’s portrayal of abuse in a nuanced manner that does not revel in the depravity of the victim.
The film is writer/director Clayton Scott‘s debut feature and was partially funded through an Indiegogo campaign. Behind the scenes photos and production tidbits can be viewed on their campaign updates page. It was shot in and around Missouri in places where Scott grew up and went to college. Friends and family of the crew helped out with production and locations. It deals with community secrets, sexual abuse, and the breakdown of communication.
It stars Davis DeRock (The Stylist, Jayhawkers), Sarah McGuire (I Am Lisa, The Stylist), and Jamie Addison (One Eye Open, The Child). It was produced by Clayton Scott, Iain Trimble, and Austin Wagoner.
Mutiny Pictures is a small distribution company founded by Ben Yennie focused on transparency and prioritizing diverse filmmakers. Yennie is the author of several books about filmmaking (The Guerrilla Rep: American Film Market Distribution Success on No Budget and The Entrepreneurial Producer) and has been a speaker on Indiewire and CNN Money. Jonathan Barkan, the Head of Acquisitions and Development Director at Mutiny, is also the creator of the upcoming Mental Health and Horror documentary which raised almost $50,000 on Kickstarter and will feature interviews with horror icons such as Linnea Quigley (Return of the Living Dead, Night of the Demons), Michael Kennedy (Freaky), Jed Shepherd (Host) and Tom McLoughlin (Friday the 13th Part VI).
Below The Fold will release on VOD on November 23rd, 2021.
