There are a number of reasons to be excited for an upcoming film. For example, the movie could have an intriguing plot synopsis, it could be made by one of your favorite filmmakers, or it could have a fantastic trailer. Any one of those is a legit reason to put a movie on your most-anticipated list, but you know what’s even better? When a film has all three. That makes it a must-watch in my book, and with the release of its new teaser trailer, When Evil Lurks has just reached that status.

For starters, When Evil Lurks was written and directed by Demián Rugna, the guy who made Terrified, and that alone is enough to make this one of my most anticipated movies of the next few months. Terrified is a fantastic haunted house film that puts a really cool spin on the subgenre, so of course I want to see what Rugna comes up with next.

What’s more, the plot synopsis for When Evil Lurks is also super intriguing. The movie is about a pair of brothers who try to exorcize a demon from their land, but they botch the ritual and set off a demonic chain reaction instead. Because of their failure, a possession epidemic begins to spread throughout their community, so they have to team up with a “cleaner” to fix this malevolent mess.

Last but not least, the When Evil Lurks trailer is absolutely terrifying. It’s not very long, but it showcases the same kind of masterful horror filmmaking that makes Terrified so great. It has an amazing atmosphere and a whole bunch of genuinely creepy imagery, so if this movie is even half as good as it looks, we’re going to be in for a real treat.

When Evil Lurks is set to come out in theaters on October 6, and then it’ll hit Shudder on October 27.
