There aren’t too many times when I find myself really excited for a sequel to a film I didn’t like. Generally, if the first movie is bad, the rest of the franchise won’t be any better. But there are some exceptions. For example, James Gunn’s follow-up to Suicide Squad (annoyingly titled The Suicide Squad) was fantastic, and Mike Flanagan’s Ouija: Origin of Evil was way better than a sequel to the original Ouija had any right to be. And now, it appears that we might be able to add another film to that list. Warner Bros. just dropped a trailer for The Nun II, and from the looks of it, this movie is going to be everything we want from a Conjuring spin-off.

Plot details are pretty scarce right now, but let’s be honest, do we really need to know all the ins and outs of the story before we go see this film? Unlike The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, I don’t think this one is going to stray too far from the typical Conjuring formula. It’s a supernatural horror flick about a demon that wants to wreak havoc, and the only thing that sets it apart from the rest of the franchise is that it takes place in a school rather than a house.

It’s pretty standard stuff, so the real draw here isn’t the plot. It’s the execution, and if the trailer is any indication, The Nun II is not going to disappoint. Sure, the scares in this trailer are by no means groundbreaking, but they’re good enough that I have high hopes for the film. It looks like we’re going to get another enjoyable entry in this fun horror universe, and at the end of the day, that’s really all I want from a Conjuring movie.

The Nun II is set to hit theaters on September 8.
