I have to be honest, when I first heard about Sound of Silence, I dismissed it as a cheap rip-off of one of my favorite horror franchises. I heard that it was about an evil being that only appears when some sort of sound is being made, and to me, that seemed a bit too similar to the A Quiet Place movies. But I decided to check the trailer out anyway, and man, I’m happy I did. While the basic idea of Sound of Silence is similar to A Quiet Place, the trailer shows that the execution is totally different, so now I’m super excited to see this film. Here’s what it’s about:
When her father is gravely injured, Emma returns to her family home in Italy. Alone in the house while her father recovers, she encounters a haunted radio—and the evil entity behind it. With the supernatural force growing stronger by the hour, Emma must reveal the dark secret behind the radio’s curse to survive the night.
Admittedly, that plot synopsis doesn’t really tell us too much about what we can expect from Sound of Silence, but the trailer says everything we need to know. It uses the same kinds of visual tricks we saw in David F. Sandberg’s feature debut Lights Out, and from the looks of it, they’re just as effective here as they were in that film. The entity haunting this radio is utterly terrifying, so even though I have no idea how good the story in Sound of Silence is going to be, the scares alone already have me hooked.
I absolutely can’t wait to see this movie, and thankfully, the wait isn’t going to be too long. Sound of Silence comes out on VOD on March 9, so it’s just a bit over a month away.
