For horror fans in need of a good dose of action, adventure, and vampire slaying this summer, Netflix announces its upcoming action-horror movie, Day Shift, starring Academy Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx. Vampire and action fans alike can watch Foxx take on the undead in Day Shift, set to be released on Netflix on August 12.
Netflix’s upcoming contribution to the realm of horror’s beloved bloodsuckers sounds like it’s going to be an action-packed thriller. According to MovieWeb, Day Shift recently earned an R rating due to “strong violence and gore, and language.” It sounds like Day Shift will hold back no punches in Foxx’s battle with the undead.
Foxx stars as an everyday, blue-collar man just trying to get by raising his daughter. He works days cleaning pools in the San Fernando Valley. However, working as a pool man is just a front for his real job—he’s part of an international union of vampire hunters.
Netflix’s Day Shift is directed, produced, and co-written by many alumni from the John Wick series. Day Shift is the directorial debut of J.J. Perry, who previously served as a second-unit director and stunt coordinator for action films such as The Fate of the Furious, Bloodshot, and the John Wick series. Day Shift was written by Tyler Tice with revisions by Shay Hatten. Hatten worked on John Wick Chapter 3—Parabellum. John Wick director Chad Stahelski served as producer alongside Jason Spitz for 87Eleven Entertainment; Shaun Redick and Yvette Yates Redick for Impossible Dream Entertainment. Jamie Foxx is executive producing with Datari Turner and Peter Baxter.
The supporting cast of Day Shift includes Dave Franco (The Disaster Artist), Snoop Dogg (Bones), Scott Adkins (Accident Man), Meagan Good (Monster Hunter), Karla Souza (How to Get Away with Murder), Eric Lange (Narcos), Zion Broadnax (Holly Day), Natasha Liu Bordizzo (The Society), Oliver Masucci (The Swarm), Steve Howey (Shameless), and C.S. Lee (Dexter).
