Netflix Announces New YA Vampire Series First Kill

Netflix recently announced that a new YA vampire series, First Kill, is set to air starting June 10th. The entire eight-episode series will be available immediately. 

First Kill is based on a short story by New York Times best-selling author Victoria “V.E.” Schwab, who also serves as the show’s writer and producer. First Kill is a YA LGBTQ+ romance about a teen vampire, Juliette (Sarah Catherine Cook), who has to make her first kill to join a powerful vampire family. She selects Calliope (Imani Lewis) for her first kill. Calliope turns out to be a vampire hunter from a well-known family of vampire slayers. However, each girl finds that the other isn’t easy to kill. Elizabeth Mitchell, Aubin Wise, Gracie Dzienny, Dominic Goodman, Phillip Mullings, Jr., and Jason R. Moore also star in the series.Two young women lay in bed with their arms around each other.

Schwab serves as writer and producer, with actress Emma Roberts and writer and producer Karah Priess also serving as producers. Roberts starred in the TV series Scream Queens and American Horror Story. Priess’ previous projects include In a Relationship (2018) and Pillowcase (2013). Writer and producer Felicia D. Henderson is serving as showrunner. Henderson previously worked in television on the series The Punisher and Gossip Girl.

Schwab’s short story was published in September 2020 as part of an anthology, Vampires Never Get Old: Tales with Fresh Bite. Schwab is also a New York Times best-selling author of more than 20 books geared towards various age groups. Her works include the international best-seller, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. Schwab is also the author of the acclaimed Shades of Magic series, the Villains series, and the Cassidy Blake series. 

All eight episodes of First Kill will be available on Netflix starting June 10th.
