MaXXXine, a Sequel to X, Is Officially in the Works from A24!

Any time I hear that Ti West is making another horror movie, I always get excited. He’s one of the best genre filmmakers working today, so his films are always near the top of my most-anticipated list. That’s how I felt about X, and it’s how I currently feel about Pearl (which we’ll get to see in just a few days!), and now we’re going to be getting a third movie in this universe: MaXXXine, a sequel to X.

The news was first announced at the Toronto International Film Festival, where a brief teaser for MaXXXine played after Pearl, much like how the Pearl teaser played after X in theaters. After that, Deadline broke the news to the wider public, and here’s what they have to say about the film:

Mia Goth will be back and reprising one of the two roles she played in X. It follows Maxine (Goth), after the events of X, as the sole survivor who continues her journey towards fame setting out to make it as an actress in 1980’s Los Angeles.

Beyond that, we don’t really know much about MaXXXine, but if I had to guess, I suspect that Maxine is going to be the villain in this movie. The fact that Mia Goth played both her and the psycho killer Pearl in X sets up an obvious parallel between the two characters, and since Pearl is the villain obsessed with becoming famous in her upcoming film, it stands to reason that Maxine, who wants nothing more than to become famous in X, would follow a similar path.

Of course, I could be totally off base with that, so we won’t know for sure until A24 releases some plot info about MaXXXine. The movie hasn’t been shot yet, so it won’t be coming out right away like Pearl did, but as soon as we get more news about it, we’ll be sure to let you all know. In the meantime, check out this brief announcement trailer that lets us know the film is coming soon:
