What strikes me about this film, even after dozens of revisits, is how completely it refuses to behave like a horror movie. There is no smart character who figures out the rules. No moment where Sally outsmarts anyone. The horror is purely physical and relentless, and that is why the 4K restoration belongs in a theater: Hooper built it for a room full of people with nowhere to run.
