Fuller has also floated one possible workaround: a Silence of the Lambs adaptation that might fall outside the obligations to Gaumont International Television, which is the studio on Hannibal. The argument is specific. As Fuller put it: “You can’t copyright a performance.” If the character can be approached through a different property, some of the rights tangle falls away.
