“Darkest Hour / Wake Thy Power” opens with the Salem Seven emerging from the earth, hell-bent on exacting revenge not just on Agatha but on the entire coven. Thanks to a timely warning from Lillia, Agatha’s coven is alerted and makes a quick escape. Surrounded by the relentless faction, they have only one means of escape: a hexenbesson—a witch’s broom. Despite their reluctance, they take to the skies, barely eluding the Salem Seven’s grasp and hurtling toward their next trial.

They soon land at a foreboding cabin in the woods, complete with ’80s pyjamas, retro board games, and a blood moon casting an ominous glow. Rio recognises the blood moon as a sign that this trial is Agatha’s, just as a Ouija board flies out, urging them to begin a séance. Agatha, trying to stall, pretends to channel Mrs Hart, but the board reveals a more sinister message: D-E-A-T-H, prompting a chuckle from Rio, followed by P-U-N-I-S-H A-G-A-T-H-A. Arguing over how to enact this punishment, Teen steps forward, pleading for an alternative, only to be cut off by Jen’s chilling reminder: “Familiars don’t get a vote.” Then the lights cut out, and an unearthly growling fills the cabin. Shining his flashlight, Teen catches sight of Agatha crawling on the ceiling, truly possessed this time.

A fierce struggle ensues as the coven forces out the spirit, revealing it to be none other than Evanora Harkness—Agatha’s mother. Filled with rage, Evanora condemns Agatha to eternal imprisonment with her, and as Agatha desperately pleads for mercy, Evanora seizes control of her body once more. Alice steps in, unleashing her latent magic to banish Evanora’s spirit, inadvertently blasting Agatha in the process. However, this gives Agatha a chance to drain Alice’s powers and kill her.

In the chaos, Teen’s eyes land on the Ouija board again, now moving with supernatural force to spell out N-I-C-H-O-L-A-S S-C-R-A-T-C-H. He shouts the name, bringing Agatha to her senses, just as Alice’s lifeless body collapses. Agatha takes this moment to flee, but Teen chases her down, demanding to know why she would kill a witch who had only tried to protect her. Agatha, struggling, claims she wasn’t in control, yet Jen and Lillia’s harsh responses reveal Teen’s growing disillusionment with the coven’s ruthless ways. Witchcraft has turned on itself; allies now betray one another for survival. Seeing Teen’s turmoil, Agatha taunts him, whispering, “You’re so much like your mother,” before calling him her “pet.” This triggers something deep within Teen. His hands ignite with powerful, blue energy, which soon spreads to Lillia and Jen, whose eyes now glow to match his power. Under Teen’s command, they cast Agatha into the mud, leaving her to drown, and turning on his former allies, Teen subjects Lillia and Jen to the same fate. In the final shot, Teen stands alone, now wearing a blue, mystical crown that resembles the Scarlet Witch’s—a sign of his transformation and the confirmation of his true identity as Wiccan.

Hidden Details

Through the chaos and challenges the trial brings, Agatha All Along is once again rich with hidden details and Easter eggs, hinting at the true identities of the coven members and what viewers can expect further in the series:

  • Lillia’s Visions: Throughout the series, Lillia, the divination witch, has been plagued with visions of what’s to come in the future. However, while these outbursts have often been without context, the breadcrumbs are beginning to pay off. When the Ouija board spirals out of control, and the coven descends into chaos, Lillia reverts to a similar position we saw her in episode two, screaming, “I hated this the first time.” More notably, Lillia has made two statements at two different times that fans have pieced together: “Alice, don’t,” in episode four, and “try to save Agatha” in episode three, which could have served as a warning. If that’s the case, what other predictions could Lillia have foreknowledge of?
  • Teen Always Finding The Clues: During each trial, the road guides the coven through what they must do, but who is always finding these clues? Teen. With Teen’s powers in full glory through the final scenes of episode five, fans are beginning to question whether this is due to him being young and eager to survive the trial or could he have other knowledge of the trials that are yet to be revealed.

Character Development

In this latest instalment of Agatha All Along, the coven descends to depraved levels, with their darkest qualities being unearthed. Despite building camaraderie and unity, the further the coven travels down the road, the more that unity begins to crack.

Throughout the series, viewers have been reminded that Agatha isn’t a good person, consumed by her endless pursuit of power. This has led to her less favourable reputation among witches for stealing their power and, according to Jen, sacrificing her own son for the Darkhold. This becomes even more apparent in this latest instalment. As Evanora instructs the coven to abandon Agatha, she recalls how her coven “did everything in their power to kill her,” a chilling callback to Wandavision. When Evanora seizes the chance to possess Agatha for a second time, Alice steps in to protect her, only to have this backfire, resulting in Agatha stealing Alice’s power and, subsequently, her life force. This callous act cements Agatha’s path, confirming her selfish nature and insatiable hunger for power. The moment is further emphasised as she begins to taunt Teen, who is distraught over his former idol’s selfish actions.

Despite travelling alongside Agatha on The Witches’ Road, each member of the coven has expressed their hatred for her. Given the opportunity to punish this infamous “serial killer,” they quickly accept, revelling in possibilities that range from tying her up, humiliating her, to outright killing her. This moment not only highlights the fractures within the coven but also underscores Agatha’s deep isolation as she faces the consequences of her actions. As trust erodes, the looming question remains: will the coven’s desire for revenge lead to their ultimate downfall?

The most significant change, however, is through Teen. Throughout the series, he has been portrayed almost as a fanboy and baby witch, well-versed in the intricacies of witchcraft yet lacking any significant power of his own. This sentiment is emphasised by how he has been referred to as the coven’s “familiar,” positioning him outside their core group. In this episode, Teen’s feelings of inadequacy and dismissal become more pronounced as the coven continuously undermines his presence. Yet, towards the end of the episode, this is turned on its head as Teen embraces his full potential, casting three high-profile and powerful witches aside with ease. Could this transformation signal the beginning of a new era for Teen, or is there more to him than viewers may have first realised? And what might this newfound power mean for the fragile dynamics of the coven?

Fan Reception and Predictions

Despite its short runtime, the latest instalment of Agatha All Along has sparked multiple fan theories, particularly surrounding one character and the potential direction of the story:

  • Teen’s Motives: Following Teen’s impressive display of power, fans are now questioning his true motives and what he hopes to achieve on The Witches’ Road. When Agatha first encounters Teen, he insists he wants to hone his craft and achieve abilities beyond his studies. However, he has already proven himself a powerful witch, which raises the question: what could he still desire? If Teen is indeed the reincarnation of Billy Maximoff, channelled through Billy Kaplan, fans speculate that, if aware of his lineage, his journey down the road may be a quest to resurrect his mother, Wanda, the Scarlet Witch.
  • Did Teen Cast The Sigil: Throughout the series, Teen has been affected by a sigil—a redaction spell that prevents him from sharing his true identity. But who could have placed such a powerful spell on him? With Teen’s motives in question, some fans now suspect that he might have cast the sigil on himself as a precaution against a vengeful Agatha, given her troubled history with the Scarlet Witch. Could this self-imposed spell be part of a larger plan to protect himself, or perhaps something even more complex?

Final Thoughts

While many might have anticipated the mystery surrounding Teen’s identity, few could have predicted just how impactful its reveal would be to the overarching narrative. The revelation took viewers by storm, leaving them eager to see the direction the story will take and how this will affect the dynamics within the coven as they inch closer to achieving their heart’s desires at the end of the road.
