The Horror Obsessive Podcast Episode 11: Bloodsucking Bastards

I’m really excited to let you guys know about this latest podcast episode. When Sean and I first agreed to do a podcast together, I made a mental list of a few movies I knew I wanted to discuss at some point, and near the top of that list was the film we talk about in this latest episode: Bloodsucking Bastards. It’s one of my favorite indie horror movies to introduce people to, so I couldn’t wait to discuss it.

If you’ve never seen Bloodsucking Bastards before, you’re in for a real treat. It’s basically Office Space with vampires, and it’s fantastic. It’s one of the funniest horror comedies I’ve ever seen, but unlike some other similar films, it’s not just a one-trick pony. This movie also has genuinely effective horror as well as a whole bunch of really likable characters you can’t help but root for, so it makes for a great viewing experience all around.

But as usual, Sean and I don’t limit our conversation to that one main topic. We start off the episode by discussing some of the most important things going on in the horror world right now, and we focus primarily on two recently released projects. First, we talk about our disappointment with the season finale of The Last of Us, and while our criticisms of it aren’t exactly the same, we both agree that it didn’t live up to our expectations.

Secondly, we pick up the conversational thread from our previous episode and discuss the latest big horror movie to hit theaters, Scream VI. I love the film, but unsurprisingly, Sean has a different take. He doesn’t hate it, but he’s much more lukewarm about the film than I am.

And as always, join us again in two weeks for our next episode of The Horror Obsessive Podcast. We’ll be talking to Elise Finnerty, the writer, director, and costar of one of the best festival films Sean and I saw last year, The Ones You Didn’t Burn.
