A24 is releasing Talk to Me This July

There are a bunch of reasons to be excited about an upcoming horror movie. Sometimes, it’s being made by a really exciting filmmaker, like Mike Flanagan or Jordan Peele. Other times, it’s based on a story we already love, like the 5 billion films based on the works of Stephen King. But in the case of Talk to Me, the big reason for most fans to be excited is the distributor. It’s being released by A24, the company behind such modern classics as The Witch, Midsommar, and Saint Maud, and for a lot of horror aficionados, myself included, that’s more than enough to get us to the theater.

Sure, their filmography is admittedly polarizing, but if you’re a fan of this studio, every movie they put out is an event. Their track record is so good that we trust them almost blindly at this point, so naturally, news that they’ve put another film on their release schedule is a big deal.

So what’s this new movie about? Well, according to Deadline, the trade that dropped the news about its release date, here’s the plot synopsis:

When a group of friends discover how to conjure spirits using an embalmed hand, they become hooked on the new thrill, until one of them goes too far and unleashes terrifying supernatural forces.

I think that sounds pretty cool, and if you’re still not convinced, here’s one last piece of evidence that Talk to Me is a film to look out for. It debuted at the Sundance Film Festival this past January, and as of this writing, it has a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes with 45 reviews. That’s amazing for a horror movie, so I don’t know about you, but I’m putting this one on my to-watch list right away.

Talk to Me is set to hit theaters on July 28, and in the meantime, check out this vlog about the film from its directors, Danny and Michael Philippou:
