The Horror Obsessive Podcast Episode 3: Silent Night, Deadly Night

The Horror Obsessive Podcast is back with a brand-new episode, and this time, we kick off the holiday season the only way we know how—by talking about a Christmas horror movie. Join Sean Parker and me as we take a deep into one of the very first killer Santa films, Silent Night, Deadly Night.

But before we do that, we chat a bit about what’s been going on in the horror world and here on the Horror Obsessive website, and we highlight some articles we think you should check out. We go over the release of Andy Mitton’s fantastic film The Harbinger (which you should all see!); the series finale of The Walking Dead; and Brendan Jesus’ perfectly timed article about his new favorite Thanksgiving zombie movie, Black Friday.

Then, once we’re done with the news recap, Sean and I dive into our main topic, and man, this one is a doozy. I have to be honest, I’m not exactly a fan of Silent Night, Deadly Night, but as far as 1980s slashers go, it’s not bad. In fact, I think it has more going on than many of its cinematic peers, and we talk a lot about what elevates it above your standard “slice and dice” flick. For example, we debate whether this movie has any intentional Satanic Panic subtext, and we talk about the way it gives its antagonist some genuine psychological depth.

And if you’re just here for the blood and gore, don’t worry, we cover that too. We discuss some of our favorite kills from the film, and I even connect the discussion to the newly-released The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special on Disney Plus (but don’t worry, I don’t spoil it if you haven’t seen it yet!). There’s a little something for everyone in this episode, so whatever your thoughts on Silent Night, Deadly Night, we hope you join us for this super fun chat.

And if you like it, don’t forget to come back in two weeks for our next episode. We’re going to continue bringing the holiday cheer as we discuss one of my favorite Christmas movies, A Christmas Horror Story.
