If you’re a fan of the Conjuring Universe, then I’ve got some great news for you. THR is reporting that The Conjuring 4 is officially in the works, and New Line is bringing back some familiar faces to help usher in this next installment of the beloved horror franchise.
David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick is on board to write the screenplay, and even if you’re not familiar with that name, you definitely know his work. He penned the scripts for The Conjuring 2 and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, so he’s been with the franchise almost since the beginning. On top of that, The Conjuring 4 is also going to be produced by James Wan and Peter Safran, a duo that’s been behind every movie in the Conjuring Universe.
THR is also reporting that Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are expected to reprise their roles as Ed and Lorraine Warren, the main characters of the Conjuring films, and James Wan has confirmed on his Facebook page that the stars are in fact returning.
Plot details are currently being kept under wraps, but it’s safe to say that The Conjuring 4 is going to explore yet another case from the Warrens’ extensive history investigating paranormal phenomena. That’s just what these movies are, so I’d be shocked if New Line decided to make up a story from scratch for this next installment.
I think it’s also a pretty safe bet that the film is going to deviate from the typical haunted house formula most people associate with the franchise. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It already took a different route from the first two films, and I fully expect The Conjuring 4 to continue that trend. The people over at New Line clearly understand that the series can’t just rehash the same old tropes again and again, so it’ll be interesting to see what kind of story they choose to tell with the fourth movie.
Not much else is known about The Conjuring 4 at the moment, but when more news breaks, we’ll be sure to let you all know.
