Wendell & Wild Trailer Promises a Spooky Stop-Motion Treat

I have to be honest, I’m not the biggest fan of animated movies. Sure, I can still enjoy them if they’re good, but as a general rule of thumb, I much prefer live action. However, there is one exception to that: I love stop-motion animation. I don’t know what it is about this style, but for some reason, it really resonates with me. So naturally, when I heard Netflix was coming out with a new stop-motion children’s horror movie called Wendell & Wild, I had to check out the trailer right away.

The film was directed by Henry Selick (who also directed The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline) and produced by Jordan Peele, and it’s about a troubled teenage girl named Kat who has to face her demons. Now, on the surface, that seems pretty generic, but there’s something unique about this situation. See, Kat’s demons aren’t just metaphorical—they’re literal demons, and they even have names: Wendell and Wild.

Admittedly, that little plot synopsis doesn’t tell us much, but in my opinion, that’s not the real draw here. Rather, what gets me excited about this film is the names attached to it. Henry Selick is already a superstar in this subgenre, and Jordan Peele is shaping up to be a hell of a producer, so even if we didn’t know anything else about this movie, their involvement alone would be enough to get me excited.

And when we look at the actual trailer, Wendell & Wild just gets more and more enticing. Granted, the trailer doesn’t tell us anything about the movie’s plot, but the visuals in it are fantastic. This film looks just as good as Selick’s other two stop-motion children’s horror movies, and that’s high praise indeed.

So even though I don’t really know what to expect from the story, this trailer has me super excited to see Wendell & Wild. It hits Netflix on October 28, and you can bet that I’ll be clearing my schedule to make sure I get to watch it as soon as possible.
