Everything is coming up Killer Klowns from Outer Space right now. With last year’s release of the quickly sold-out Cotton Candy Gun at Spirit Halloween stores (back in stock this year), it seems the horror comedy premise of the aliens’ antics has once again found viability, earning a new short film this year as a lead in advertisement to Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights. Now, a multiplayer video game, simply titled Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game.
The reveal of the Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game trailer at Gamescom this week caught many people off guard, especially since it was announced during opening night. The game, from Friday the 13th: The Game executive director Randy Greenback, feels like the right mix of fun for a multiplayer experience in the same vein of Evil Dead: The Game, though maybe with more of a Plants vs. Zombies campaign style. However, I can only assume based on this teaser. There was no gameplay attached to this early development. However, the trailer ends with a link to request beta access to the game and reveals it will be available in early 2023, meaning it’s already in the polishing stages.
Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game will be a 3v7 of humans versus alien Klowns. Players on the human side will have to sneak around sabotaging the Klowns’ machinery, crafting weapons, and staying alive for the duration of a round. Meanwhile, the Klowns will have special human hunting abilities to capture, kill, and invade more efficiently.
This early trailer genuinely infuses the spirit of the classic ’80s film, made in collaboration with the Chiodo Brothers, the original film’s creators. Showing off acid pies and pizza box gags, making us all wonder about the weaponry, hiding mechanics, and location settings that might be available when the game releases. According to IGN, “publisher Good Shepard says the randomly generated map will be ‘expansive’ and ‘ever changing.’ The game will be released as a live-service title, with ‘multiple content updates planned for post-launch.”
Voiceover veterans Dino Andrade and Lani Minella lend their voices to the Killer Klowns game. This duo has provided their talents to numerous big-name games over the last thirty years, including World of Warcraft and Twisted Metal games. They are joined by Mass Effect’s D.C. Douglas, Elex II’s Jordan Reynolds, and Bendy and the Ink Machine’s Lauren Synger.
Killer Klowns fans won’t have to wait too long for a return to the silver screen, either. The Chiodo Brothers are currently working on a sequel. The Return of the Killer Klowns from Outer Space in 3D is in the early stages of development, with IMDB listing original film star Grant Cramer returning as Mike Tobacco.
