We’ve known for a little while now that Godzilla vs. Kong would be getting a sequel, but so far Warner Bros has been pretty tightlipped about plot details. Sure, we’ve gotten bits and pieces here and there, and there have been some rumors swirling around as well, but concrete info about Godzilla vs. Kong 2 has been pretty hard to come by. Until now, that is. Warner Bros just released a plot synopsis for the film, and as a huge fan of these two titans, I’m absolutely ecstatic about this news. Here’s what the movie is going to be about:
This latest entry follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own. The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.
What really intrigues me about this news is that Godzilla vs. Kong 2 is going to be a team-up movie. Before this, pretty much everything we had heard was making it seem like the film might focus on Kong and leave Godzilla behind, so I’m glad to see we’re going to be getting both alpha titans.
On top of that, this plot synopsis also promises an enemy that will somehow challenge “their very existence” as well as ours, and I have to be honest, I’m not entirely sure who or what that could be. We’ve already seen Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla in the MonsterVerse, so it’s almost certainly not going to be either of them, but other than those two, I can’t think of another monster from the Godzilla franchise who would fit that description.
If I had to venture a guess, I’d say it’s probably aliens. Aliens have played a big role in the Godzilla franchise since the 1960s, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Warner Bros is finally bringing them over into their iteration of the character.
But we probably won’t know for sure until we actually see Godzilla vs. Kong 2, so we’re going to have to wait a while to find out. The film comes out on March 15, 2024, and as always, when we learn more about it, we’ll be sure to let you all know.
