Since I write for a website called Horror Obsessive, it should come as no surprise that Halloween is my favorite holiday. Sure, there are other holidays that are more meaningful to me, but in terms of sheer fun, nothing can match the scariest day of the year. However, it’s not just October 31 that I love. It’s the whole month. The world starts to get a little bit spookier on October 1, and this year, a big part of that is going to be AMC’s FearFest.
If you’re not familiar with FearFest, it’s AMC’s (the TV channel, not the movie theater chain) annual celebration of the Halloween season, and while it runs, they’ll be playing horror movies pretty much all day every day. Now, up until a few years ago, FearFest used to start in the middle of October, but for the past few years, it’s gone the entire month.
And I’m very happy to report that AMC will be continuing that new trend this year as well. In a recent Twitter post, the official FearFest account announced that the annual Halloween programming block will be starting on October 1, and if you’re anything like me, that’s great news.
I love being able to turn on the TV at any time and see a horror movie. Sure, I don’t always love what’s on, but at the very least, any genre film can serve as good background noise to whatever else I’m doing. On top of that, FearFest also allows me to catch up on some older movies I haven’t gotten around to watching yet, and it allows me to revisit some old favorites I haven’t seen in a while. It’s a staple of my annual Halloween celebrations, and I can’t wait to get the party started right when the calendar changes to October!
We don’t know what films will be included in this year’s FearFest, but when AMC releases the schedule, we’ll be sure to let you all know.
