The Munsters Won’t Actually Come Out via Netflix…At Least Not at First

A few days ago, we learned that Rob Zombie’s The Munsters would be coming out on Netflix sometime in September, but we didn’t know the exact day. We said we’d let you guys know when we got a concrete release date, and now, just a few days later, we know exactly when that’ll be.

The Munsters will be coming out on September 27, but surprisingly, it’s not going to be on Netflix…at least not initially. The film is actually going to hit Blu-ray, DVD, and VOD first, and it’ll go to Netflix sometime later in the year.

If you ask me, this is pretty good news. For starters, as I’ve said before, I’m a physical media guy through and through, so I’m always happy when films get Blu-ray releases. In particular, Netflix originals don’t always come out on physical media, so I was a bit worried that this movie would be streaming-only. Thankfully, it won’t be, so if I like it, I’ll be able to pick up a copy and own it myself.

Secondly, and probably more importantly, this means that the film won’t actually be a Netflix original, and if you’re familiar with Netflix movies, you know that’s a good thing. While the service’s TV shows are often really good, it has a very spotty track record with its original films (to say the least!), so a Netflix release for any movie is always a bit of a red flag. But since The Munsters will be coming out before it hits the streaming service, we have one more reason to be optimistic about it.

Along with this news, the studio also released a new trailer for the film, and it shows us some footage we haven’t seen before. So if you’re still on the fence about this movie or you just want to see a bit more of it before you get a chance to watch the whole thing, check out the new trailer below.
