Day Shift Trailer Promises a Fun Vampire Ride

I have to be honest, when I first saw the trailer for Day Shift, I initially wasn’t sure I was watching the right video. For about the first 20 seconds or so, it looks more like a crime thriller than a vampire movie, but that all changes when Jamie Foxx shoots an old lady with a shotgun. I soon realized she was an undead bloodsucker, and then everything fell into place. See, this isn’t your typical vampire flick. Rather, it looks like it’s going to put a bit of a twist on this classic subgenre, and I’m all for it. Here’s what the film is about:

Jamie Foxx stars as a hard working blue collar dad who just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted daughter, but his mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income, hunting and killing vampires as part of an international Union of vampire hunters.

Even without the trailer, that plot description alone is enough to get me on board with Day Shift. It sounds like it’s basically John Wick and Nobody with vampires, and as a huge fan of those movies, I absolutely can’t wait to see this one.

Then, when you add in the trailer, my excitement just goes through the roof. Not only does it appear that Day Shift is going to have some awesome and unique vampire action, but it also looks hilarious. In particular, Dave Franco is perfect as the misfit nerd who somehow gets pulled into a life of vampire hunting, and it’s an absolute joy watching Snoop Dogg basically play a more badass version of himself. In short, pretty much everything about this trailer works for me, so if the full movie is even half as good, we’re going to be in for a good time.

Day Shift hits Netflix on August 12.
