Resurrection Trailer Promises a Masterclass in Psychological Horror

I’m not going to beat around the bush: I absolutely can’t wait to see Resurrection, and when I found out that IFC Midnight had released a full trailer for it, it just about made my day. I’ve been a fan of the film’s lead star Rebecca Hall ever since I first saw her almost a decade ago in Iron Man 3, and my love of her work has only grown since then. Most recently, she was amazing in last year’s The Night House, so when I heard about Resurrection, it immediately shot to the top tier of my most-anticipated list. Here’s what the movie is about:

Margaret’s life is in order. She is capable, disciplined, and successful. Soon, her teenage daughter, who Margaret raised by herself, will be going off to a fine university, just as Margaret had hoped. Everything is under control. That is, until David returns, carrying with him the horrors of Margaret’s past.

Admittedly, that’s a pretty vague plot synopsis, and it even raises more questions than it answers. Most obviously, who is David? And what “horrors” lie in Margaret’s past? We have no idea, but just the idea of that mystery is more than enough to intrigue the hell out of me.

And when you add in the trailer, Resurrection becomes just about impossible to resist. It teases the “horrors” of Margaret’s past in just about the most compelling way possible, it’s filled with incredible tension from beginning to end, and the two lead performances look absolutely fantastic. Simply put, this trailer is exactly what the plot synopsis promises, so if the full movie is even half as good, we’re in for a real treat.

Resurrection is slated to hit VOD and limited theaters on August 5. To hold you over while you wait, you can check out Sean Parker’s review of the movie from the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.
