She Will Trailer Promises a Beautifully Creepy Subgenre Mashup

Anybody who knows my horror tastes knows I’m a big fan of IFC Midnight. I think they’re one of the best indie distributors around, so I always get excited when they announce new movies. Sure, not everything they put out is great, but they have a much better hit to miss ratio than most (maybe even all!) of their peers, so when I heard they released a trailer for their upcoming film She Will, I knew I had to check it out as soon as I could. Here’s what the movie is going to be about:

“An aging film star retreats to the Scottish countryside with her nurse to recover from surgery. While there, mysterious forces of revenge emerge from the land where witches were burned.”

That’s admittedly a pretty vague plot description, but it tells us more than enough to get me excited. It seems like this is going to be some sort of mashup of folk horror, witches, and revenge horror, and I’m all for it. I love all three of those subgenres, so I can’t wait to see how the film blends them together.

When we move on to the actual trailer, it doesn’t tell us anything else about the plot, but it gives us a glimpse of how this story is going to be told, and once again, I’m all on. For starters, the visuals here are gorgeous. This looks like the kind of movie that’s going to be fun to look at even when nothing particularly extraordinary is happening on screen, and that’s always a good thing.

On top of that, the She Will trailer also features some really cool horror imagery and a chilling sense of dread, so this promises to be more than just a pretty picture. It looks like this film is going to be equal parts beautiful and unsettling, and that combination is pretty hard to beat.

She Will hits VOD and select theaters on July 15.
