Event Horizon Celebrates 25TH Anniversary With New 4K Ultra HD Steelbook This Summer

Paul W.S Anderson’s haunted house in space celebrates its 25th Anniversary with an upcoming 4K Ultra HD Steelbook release from Paramount on August 9th, 2022.

The 1997 film stars Sam Neill and Laurence Fishburne as they’re sent on a mission to investigate the newly resurfaced Event Horizon, a starship with an experimental gravity drive that folds space-time. It mysteriously reappears after 7 years of orbiting Neptune, prompting the rescue vessel Lewis and Clark, with Dr. William Weir (Sam Neill), the Event Horizon’s designer, to find out what happened to the crew. Soon they’re faced with unimaginable horror from a dimension outside of the known universe. The tagline Infinite Space…Infinite Terror! That sums it up well. Additional cast includes Kathleen Quinlan and Joely Richardson.

While the film was heavily edited due to studio demand, (with deleted footage dubbed “the blood orgy” reportedly lost forever to the dismay of fans) and was a critical and commercial failure upon release, it contains memorable sequences and remains a cult classic.

It’s firmly in the “Love It Or Hate It” category and I personally love it, even though I know it’s flawed. It’s always been a fun rewatch. I love the “Gothic Cathedral” aspect of the ship itself, plus Sam Neill’s performance and description of folding space-time are simply iconic.

The special features include a new commentary by director Paul W.S Anderson and Producer Jeremy Bolt, The Making Of Event Horizon – 5 Documentaries, The Point of No Return: The Filming of Event Horizon With Director Commentary, Secrets with Selectable Director Commentary, The Unseen Event Horizon: The Unfilmed Rescue Scene, plus Conceptual Art and Trailers.

The box art (shown below) features the gravity drive, the Event Horizon ship, as well as various gnarly hands. It can currently be pre-ordered on Amazon and is expected to release this summer, on August 9th, 2022.
