Homebound Trailer Promises a Creepy Horror Mystery

In a certain sense, horror trailers are a lot like horror movies. They usually tell their own little spoiler-free stories, so just like the films they advertise, they’re often at their best when they start out slow and then gradually build the tension until all hell breaks loose. And the new trailer for Homebound is a great example of that.

The film is about a father and his new fiancé who travel to the countryside to visit his ex-wife and their kids, but when they arrive, they find that something isn’t right. The children are acting strange and their mother is nowhere to be found.

That’s all we know about the movie, but for my money, it’s plenty. Mysteries are often the lifeblood of the horror genre, and this one is really intriguing. It’s simple but effective, so I just have to know what’s going on here.

After watching the Homebound trailer, I suspect that the kids probably did something to their mother, and whatever is behind that mysterious door is almost certainly connected to her disappearance. In fact, it might even be her. The trailer seems to imply that it’s some sort of animal or monster, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s a bit of a misdirect. Maybe the woman snapped and went feral and the kids are keeping her locked up. We obviously won’t know the truth until we actually see the movie, but until then, that’s as good a guess as any.

That being said, there is one thing I’m pretty confident about: something is definitely wrong with these kids. While they appear innocent enough when we first meet them, they get more and more sinister as the trailer goes on. In particular, that shot where they’re playing the piano and they look back at the camera is pretty creepy and just about everything they do after that is textbook horror. It lets us know without a doubt that these kids are up to no good and I can’t wait to see just how bad they are.

When you put all this together, you get an awesome trailer, so I’m super excited to see Homebound. It looks like a really intriguing horror mystery, and if it sticks the landing, it just might be one of the best genre films of the year.

Homebound hits VOD and select theaters on May 13.
