The Foo Fighters are all set to record their 10th studio album (Medicine At Midnight) but it needs something special to make it pop. So when the band rents a creepy mansion in Los Angeles to spark their creativity, there might be some supernatural residents, as well! Frontman Dave Grohl is immediately suspicious of the home (“Do you all get this overwhelming sense of death?”) but soon becomes possessed himself, and now the entire team is in danger. Studio 666 promises a mix of hard rock and comedy that is sure to please both music and horror fans. Comical death involving musical instruments? Check. A woodchipper?! Check. Demonic possession? You know it.
Grohl has made appearances in several films before (Bill and Ted Face The Music, and Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny), but this is the first time the whole band is together on the big screen. Films starring bands are nothing new, but there hasn’t been one with an actual story (as opposed to an extended music video or concert/tour documentary) in a few years. Correct me if I’m wrong about this!
Alongside the entire Foo Fighters band (Chris Shiflett, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Rami Jaffee, and Pat Smear), Jenny Ortega (Scream 2022), SNL’s Will Forte, and legendary comedian Jeff Farlin round out the cast. I think there are more celebrity cameos because Lionel Ritchie appears in the trailer, as well.
The Foo Fighters were recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021. They also released an album of disco covers called Hail Satin, under the name Dee Gees. Studio 666 was announced in December 2021.
Studio 666 will release on February 25th, 2022.
