Salem Horror Fest is one of our favorite festivals at Horror Obsessive. This month, in honor of Pride, the horror festival is back with Frightgown, bringing us a lineup of kick-ass horror movies focused around some kick-ass people.
Frightgown is a weekend festival celebrating Queer horror cinema and will feature films, shorts, panels, exclusive content, and virtual hangouts. In a statement for the festival, the presenters of Frightgown, Salem Horror Fest founder K Lynch and co-host of Horror Queers podcast Joe Lipsett write,
After more than a year of being kept apart, isolated, and disconnected from our community, the need for a communal experience has never been more vital. Queer people deserve a celebratory event—an opportunity to reconnect and to engage with the films, people, and discussions that contribute to our experience as fans and contributors to the horror genre.
Frightgown is revealing new films appearing in the festival daily on the Salem Horror Fest Facebook page. Still, we know there will be an encore showing of the brilliantly executed Giallo-inspired horror-comedy Death Drop Gorgeous that premiered at Salem Horror Fest in October and the festival premiere of Christopher Bickel’s grindhouse-inspired Bad Girls among the current lineup.
Tickets start at only $25 to view scheduled programs throughout the weekend festival. Alternatively, the $100 VIP ticket grants on-demand access to all of the festival’s films, shorts, panels, and events. Plus, while they last, a VIP purchase also gets you a limited-edition Pride Day the 13th hockey mask designed by Uncle Boogieman, which is truly awesome looking. Finally, no matter which tier you choose, you’re invited to attend a Killer Prom. In a retro video game virtual space, you’ll be able to chat with friends, play games with other attendees, and maybe say thanks to Frightgown’s founders for putting on, what I’m sure will be, another excellent event.
What’s even more appealing than a weekend of well-curated horror by one of the “World’s 50 Best Genre Film Festivals?” Proceeds from the festival will help support the Transgender Law Center, a wonderful organization seeking to help change law and policy in the United States so people can live their lives and express themselves freely and safely.
